Privacy Policy

Last updated September 2026. Written for the UK and for the HEPP Basingstoke beta.

First draft for the Basingstoke beta. Highlighted items still need real details filling in and this wording has not been reviewed by a solicitor.

Who is responsible for your information

The data controller for HEPP is [insert legal operator name], [insert postal/business address if required], [insert company number if HEPP operates through a limited company]. Privacy questions can go to [insert final support email].

What we collect

  • Your name.
  • Your email address.
  • Your mobile number.
  • Your postcode and the location of a job.
  • Job descriptions and the details you give when posting.
  • Photos you upload of a job.
  • Tradesperson profile details and job preferences, including categories, travel radius and availability.
  • Messages sent between homeowners and tradespeople on HEPP.
  • Expressions of interest, indicative prices and quotes.
  • Booking information, including who was booked and when.
  • Reviews and replies to reviews.
  • Technical and security information needed to run accounts, such as sign-in records, device and browser information, and basic logs.

Why we use it

  • To create and operate your account.
  • To match jobs with suitable local tradespeople by trade type, distance and availability.
  • To send verification codes and service notifications, such as new matching jobs or booking updates.
  • To enable bookings and communication between homeowners and tradespeople.
  • To help prevent fraud, keep people safe and protect the platform.
  • To provide customer support when you contact us.
  • To understand how HEPP is used so we can improve it.

We rely on performing our contract with you for running the service, our legitimate interests in keeping HEPP safe and improving it, your consent where we ask for it, and our legal obligations where they apply.

Keeping contact details private

Your phone number, email address and exact address are not shown to tradespeople who are simply browsing jobs. Before a booking, a tradesperson sees only the job type, your postcode area, roughly how far away the job is, your description and any photos.

Contact details are released only when a booking is confirmed by both sides, in line with the booking rules in the app. Reviews show your first name only.

Who we share it with

We share information with the service providers that help us run HEPP, such as our hosting and database provider, our email provider and our SMS provider for mobile verification. They act on our instructions and only for these purposes. We may also share information where the law requires it, or to protect someone's safety.

We do not sell your information, and we do not currently use third-party identity verification providers or carry out formal background checks on tradespeople. Verified badges in the beta reflect the checks described in the app and nothing more.

How long we keep it

We keep account information for as long as your account is open. Job records, messages, bookings and reviews are kept for as long as reasonably required to run the service, resolve disputes and meet our legal obligations. Job photos are kept securely for as long as reasonably required and can be deleted on request. Verification codes and similar short-lived records are deleted shortly after use.

Your rights

You can ask us for a copy of your information, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete your account and information, object to or restrict certain uses, and ask for your information in a portable form. Email [insert final support email] and we will respond within one month.

If you are unhappy with how we handle your information you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.

Security

Access to information is restricted so that homeowners and tradespeople only see what they need for their own jobs. Data is encrypted in transit, photos are stored in private storage, and accounts are protected by email confirmation and mobile verification. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong, unique password.

Changes

We may update this notice as HEPP develops. Significant changes will be made clear in the app.
